Home Tips : Non-toxic pest control
The key to non-toxic pest control is firstly understanding that if you are not going to use chemicals you will always have a certain population of pests in your garden. The trick is to keep the populations of these pests at such a level that they do little or no damage.
Man-made chemicals do the trick of immediately removing pests from your garden. Unfortunately, few are selective enough to have no impact on other animals which either feed on the plants or on the pests themselves. Also, by totally removing one pest, you might be removing the food source of a more valuable predator.
So, how to control the populations of the pests? As with most problems if we look closely enough, Mother Nature has put the answers right in front of our noses.

Garden : How to winterize your garden
winterize your garden
How to winterize your garden and take the edge off winter when you shelter your plants with simple protective covers. There are a variety of covers to protect your plants from winter damage.
Cover protection involves applying insulating materials such as mulch, hessian or plastic cones, over the roots and foliage of plants during the coldest part of the year. This is generally only necessary in cool or cold climates, or in areas that experience strong winter winds.
Mulch can insulate soil to prevent moisture loss from winter winds. Mulch can also be used to keep the ground from getting too cold, which can harm the roots or sensitive plants. Foliage is covered to protect it against sudden frost and night-time cold.
Cover protection will significantly increase a plant’s chance or survival during cold weather. It will not, however, allow you to grow warm-climate plants in cold-weather regions.
